On Monday evening, the South Sumatra Prosecutor’s Office revealed the detention of Assistant Inspector of Investigation (EK) as a suspect in a graft case under investigation by the Palembang District Attorney’s Office.

Vanny Yulia Eka Sari, the Head of Public Relations at the South Sumatra Prosecutor’s Office, stated that EK is suspected of involvement in this case using a modus operandi that involved leveraging the name of the Prosecutor’s Office to promise resolution of a corruption case being investigated by the Palembang District Attorney’s Office.

While Vanny did not provide comprehensive details about the graft case involving the suspect, she explained that based on the findings of the investigative team of the South Sumatra Prosecutor’s Office, EK allegedly engaged in these actions by promising influence over the ongoing corruption case at the Palembang District Attorney’s Office.

According to Vanny, the designation of EK as a suspect occurred on December 18, 2023, following previous questioning where EK was a witness. The results of the interrogation concluded that sufficient evidence pointed to EK’s involvement in the graft case.

The disclosure made by the South Sumatra Prosecutor’s Office also revealed that the actions allegedly performed by the suspect violated Article 12 letter E of the Corruption Law, subsidiary to Article 11 of the same law, and further subsidiary to Article 5 paragraph 2 of the Corruption Law.

In the course of this case’s development, the suspect EK will be held for the next 20 days, starting from December 18, 2023, until January 6, 2024. During the investigation process, six individuals have been questioned as witnesses, with further developments expected in this case.

Meanwhile, the legal representative of the suspect, Rizal Samsul, confirmed his client’s involvement in alleged graft related to a corruption case at SMA Negeri 19 Palembang. Rizal stated that EK is suspected of receiving gratification from the headmaster of SMA 19 but did not disclose the exact amount of gratification received. Further details will be presented during the indictment.

This case showcases the commitment to combating corruption practices that harm the community, reflecting the seriousness of addressing corruption within the region’s legal framework.
