Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – A tragic fire incident rocked Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim Lorong Semendawai 2, RT 043/013, Kelurahan 3-4 Ulu, SU I District, Palembang, on Tuesday (30/4/2024) morning around 06:45. The fire claimed the life of an elderly man known as Rozali (78), the owner of a two-story semi-permanent house.
Information gathered from reliable sources indicates that the fire was first noticed by a resident named Guntur (43), who was passing by Rozali’s house. Guntur saw thick black smoke accompanied by flames already engulfing Rozali’s house roof. Without hesitation, Guntur immediately shouted a warning of the fire, prompting a swift response from nearby residents.
Residents quickly rushed out of their homes with whatever tools they had to extinguish the flames. However, in the panic and rescue efforts, Guntur sustained minor burns. He promptly contacted the Fire Brigade (PBK) and SU I Police Station, Palembang.
PBK and police officers arrived at the scene promptly, assisting residents in extinguishing the blaze consuming Rozali’s home. However, these efforts could not save Rozali, who was found dead from burns at the scene.
SU I Police Chief, Palembang, Kompol Alex, confirmed the incident, stating that the police had conducted a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) to investigate the exact cause of the fire. As of now, the cause of the fire and the source of the flames are still unknown.
In addition to Rozali, who perished in the fire, a resident named Guntur and his child sustained minor burns due to this tragic incident. They have been taken to RS Bari, Palembang, for medical treatment.
The Forensic Unit of Palembang Police Headquarters, Iptu Agus Wijaya, stated that the Forensic team had descended to the scene to conduct further investigation. The deceased victim has been evacuated to the hospital, while the cause of the fire remains the primary focus of the authorities’ investigation.
