PALI, KOTABARI.COM – Police have revealed the chronology of a deadly duel between two farmers, Joni (30) and Kunci (40), in Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI). The confrontation, which occurred on Saturday (18/5/2024) around 9:30 PM on the main road of Desa Tempirai, Penukal Utara District, ended with both men dead.
According to Iptu Yudhistira, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of PALI Police, the investigation so far has included the questioning of three witnesses. “Yes, we have interviewed three witnesses so far,” he confirmed to Kotabari.com on Monday (20/5/2024).
Based on witness testimonies and police investigations, the fatal duel between Joni and Kunci also indicated an assault by multiple perpetrators. “From the information we have, the duel between Kunci and Joni was accompanied by an assault, leading to the deaths of both victims,” Yudhistira explained.
Witnesses reported that the incident began with a fierce duel between Kunci and Joni. Joni was the first to fall, suffering stab wounds inflicted by Kunci. “Witnesses saw Joni fall first, bleeding from stab wounds after the duel,” he said.
The situation escalated when A, Joni’s brother, and his friends, who were present, reacted to seeing Joni injured. “A and his friends, upon seeing Joni bleeding, chased after Kunci with a machete,” Yudhistira said.
A and his companions caught up with Kunci and attacked him with the machete, causing him to collapse on the village road. “Even after Kunci fell, A continued to strike him with the machete,” he added.
Local residents who witnessed the incident intervened and tried to separate them. As more people arrived, A and his companions fled the scene. “The injured Joni and Kunci were immediately taken to Tempirai Health Center. Due to their severe injuries, they were referred to hospitals. Kunci was taken to RS Fadilah Prabumulih, while Joni was taken to RS Talang Ubi Pendopo. Unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries en route,” Yudhistira explained.
Police are currently pursuing A and his accomplices, who are suspected of participating in the fatal assault on Kunci. “We are still chasing the suspected perpetrators,” Yudhistira added.
