Ogan Komering Ulu, KOTABARI.COM – Follow-up floods have struck Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday (22/5/2024), submerging homes in several districts. In the Ulu Ogan, Pengandonan, Semidang Aji, Baturaja Barat, and Lengkiti districts, floodwaters reached about 1 meter in height.
In Ulu Ogan, the villages of Kelumpang and Gunung Tiga were affected. In Pengandonan, the floodwaters inundated Tanjungsari, Kesambirata, Gunung Liwat, Tangsi Lontar, Gunung Kuripan, and Ujan Mas villages. While there were no casualties, many homes were flooded, and residents temporarily evacuated to the Koramil 403-01 Pengandonan office, returning home around 4:00 AM.
The Semidang Aji district experienced flooding in Suka Merindu, Tanjung Kurung, Sukarame, Batang Hari, Nyiur Sayak, Padang Bindu, and Ulak Pandan villages. In Singapura Village, dozens of homes were submerged, and a suspension bridge was nearly destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Baturaja Barat was also hit, with flooding in Batukuning Urban Village, Karang Agung, Tanjungkarangan, and Karang Endah villages. Dozens of homes were flooded, and the Trans-Sumatra Highway in Batukuning and Tanjungkarangan was inundated.
In Lengkiti district, Lubuk Dalam, Negeri Ratu, and Segara Kembang villages were affected, with a suspension bridge in Negeri Ratu reported destroyed by the floodwaters.
Drs Januar Effendy MSi, Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of OKU Regency, stated that there were no casualties in the disaster. “There are no casualties in this disaster, but one suspension bridge has been destroyed. Material losses cannot yet be estimated, and some areas have begun to recede,” said Januar Effendy.
Disaster response teams are currently conducting assessments and providing aid to affected residents. The public is advised to remain vigilant and follow instructions from authorities to anticipate further flooding.
