Muara Enim, KOTABARI.COM – Intense rainfall has caused the Enim River in Muara Enim to overflow, resulting in flooding with water levels ranging from 50 cm to 3 meters. This incident has submerged hundreds of homes, affecting numerous families in the area.
“The flood points are located in Gang Bangka RT 02, Tanjung Enim, Lawang Kidul, Muara Enim. This flood is due to very high rainfall intensity, causing the Enim River to overflow,” said the Head of BPBD South Sumatra, M Iqbal Alisyahbana, on Thursday (May 23, 2024).
Iqbal mentioned that data collection regarding the flood incident in Muara Enim is still ongoing. As of 3:00 AM, the floodwaters in the area had reached up to 3 meters.
“The water level ranges from knee-deep to about 3 meters. There are no casualties, but 250 homes inhabited by 140 families have been flooded,” explained Iqbal.
Currently, BPBD Muara Enim is on-site conducting evacuation processes. They are also setting up evacuation tents and dispatching logistical needs in coordination with Lawang Kidul District and other relevant agencies.
Lawang Kidul District Head, Andrille Martin, urged residents living near the Enim River to remain vigilant as the river could overflow again at any time. He also requested that village heads and related agencies assist in evacuating affected residents.
“We are also asking to set up posts for affected residents, with the main post located at Saadah Mosque,” Andrille stated.
The local government, along with relevant agencies, continues to work on mitigating the impact of this flood, ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected residents in Muara Enim.
