Tragic Bus Accident in OKI: 2 Dead, Dozens Injured

Ogan Komering Ilir, KOTABARI.COM – A tragic accident befell a group of students and teachers from an elementary school in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Timur on Friday night (May 24, 2024). The accident occurred on Jalan Lintas Timur, Desa Buluh Cawang, Kayu Agung District, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency. The bus, carrying the group on a study tour, collided with a stationary truck and overturned, resulting in two fatalities and dozens of injuries.

OKI Police Traffic Unit Chief, AKP Joko Edy, confirmed the incident, which claimed two lives and injured many others. “Yes, the accident happened last night, resulting in two fatalities and dozens of injuries. Currently, four people are still being treated at Kayu Agung Regional Hospital. The bus was carrying an elementary school study tour group from OKU Timur,” Joko told detikSumbagsel on Saturday (May 25, 2024).

The bus, with the registration number BE 7431 BU, had 29 passengers, including eight adult women, two adult men, eleven boys, and eight girls.

The bus driver fled the scene after the accident, and their identity is still unknown. Police are currently conducting further investigations to determine the cause of the accident and locate the fleeing driver.
