Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – A teenager named M Arief (18) died from a stab wound to his back after being involved in a brawl in the Celentang area, Kalidoni District, early Monday morning (June 24, 2024).
The victim was rushed to Boom Baru Hospital following the incident but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Incident Chronology
Baharudin (39), the victim’s father, recounted that he received news of his son’s death from the victim’s older sibling around 3 a.m.
“My brother called me at about 3 in the morning, saying that Arief had died at the hospital,” Baharudin explained when met at the family home on Jalan Temon Lorong Tangga Raja, 27 Ilir Subdistrict.
According to Baharudin, Arief, who lived with his grandmother and uncle, left home without informing anyone. Earlier, Arief had returned home around midnight and left again an hour later after being picked up by his friends.
“He came home at midnight while I was still there. Then I left for Plaju around 1 a.m., and that’s when his friends picked him up,” Baharudin said.

Arief was reportedly stabbed while being a passenger on a motorcycle. The police have shown CCTV footage that captured the brawl at the scene.
“The wound was on his back and was torn. The police have shown us CCTV footage from the area that confirms a brawl took place there,” Baharudin added.
Funeral and Police Report
The victim is scheduled to be buried at Puncak Sekuning Public Cemetery at 4:00 PM WIB today. Many relatives and neighbors have come to the family home to offer their condolences.
Baharudin hopes the perpetrator who stabbed his son will be apprehended and brought to justice. Currently, two of the victim’s friends are being questioned by the police.
“Two of my son’s friends are now being questioned at the police station. We will file a police report soon,” Baharudin concluded.
This tragic event highlights the dangers of gang fights and the importance of monitoring teenagers to prevent them from getting involved in violent activities. The police are expected to quickly identify and apprehend the perpetrator to provide justice for the victim’s family.
