A 31-year-old man named Sundoto, a resident of South OKU Regency, has been involved in a tragic event that resulted in the death of his father-in-law.

The chain of events was set into motion by his wife’s request for a divorce from Sundoto. Emotions ran high as Sundoto’s wife decided to part ways and expressed her desire to end their marriage. The man firmly pointed the finger at his father-in-law, Ahyin, accusing him of interfering in their marital affairs.

During his confession to the police on Monday, August 7, 2023, Sundoto admitted to his bold act of taking the life of his father-in-law. Deputy Chief of Police of South OKU, Kompol Hardan HS, along with AKP Biladi Ostin SH,MH as the Head of Criminal Investigation Division, and Iptu Holdon as the Public Relations Officer, have unveiled that the motive behind the murder was a domestic issue. Authorities explained that the perpetrator felt offended due to his father-in-law’s repeated interference in their marital affairs, which ultimately culminated in this bloody tragedy.

The chronology of events indicates that before the fatal incident, the perpetrator’s wife had returned to her parents’ home following an argument. Sundoto then visited the victim’s house carrying a piece of wood and a sharp parang knife on his waist. Upon arrival, he wasted no time and attacked the victim with a blunt piece of wood, striking him on the head.

Despite the victim’s attempts to resist and fend off the attack, the perpetrator remained undeterred. He swiftly drew his parang and slashed the victim’s neck, tragically ending his life on the spot. Following this gruesome act, Sundoto surrendered himself to the Simpang Police Station.

In the courtroom, Sundoto faced serious charges. He was indicted under Article 340 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) and the subsidiary Article 338 of the KUHP, which refer to premeditated murder. The potential punishment for the perpetrator is a maximum life sentence or a minimum of 20 years in prison.

This tragedy serves as a heart-wrenching reminder of the negative consequences of escalating family disputes into deadly violence. The police urge the community to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid acts of violence that not only harm individuals but also damage the bonds of brotherhood and harmony within society.
