OKU Timur, KOTABARI.COM – A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded on Sunday, September 3, 2023, around 3:30 PM local time in OKU Timur when an elderly woman named Cik Ida (80) lost her life after being struck by a train. The incident has left the local community in shock, and this tragic event was promptly handled by AKP Siska Aisandi, the Head of Traffic at the OKU Timur Regional Police.
Cik Ida, a native of OKU Timur, resided in Cidawang, Pangku Sekunyitini Sub-district. She met her unfortunate demise at the Kebun Jati railway crossing in Martapura Sub-district. At that moment, Cik Ida was attempting to cross the railway tracks, but tragically, she was hit by the Batu Bara Long Train, commonly referred to as Babaranjang, on its way to Lampung.
According to AKP Siska Aisandi, the victim suddenly crossed the railway tracks without allowing the train sufficient time to come to a stop. The high speed of the Babaranjang made this horrifying collision inevitable. Cik Ida’s body was thrown by the impact, and sadly, her life could not be saved.
“The victim’s body was dragged by the train for a distance of 100 meters, resulting in severe injuries that ultimately led to her untimely demise,” revealed Siska during an interview on Monday, September 4, 2023.
Bystanders who witnessed this tragic incident immediately contacted the police to facilitate the retrieval of Cik Ida’s scattered remains around the railway crossing. The fragmented condition of the victim’s body served as a testament to the severity of the accident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was likely caused by Cik Ida’s lack of attention to traffic and the approaching train. The victim’s remains have been handed over to her family for the appropriate funeral arrangements.
This incident serves as a solemn reminder to all individuals of the importance of exercising caution when crossing railway tracks, especially for elderly citizens. May Cik Ida find peace in the afterlife, and may her family find strength in the face of this tragic ordeal.
