Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – Doni Permana, commonly known as Apin (30), was found dead in the Sekanak River, Palembang, on Monday night (May 13, 2024). Before his death, Apin is suspected to have fallen into the river due to a seizure from his epilepsy. The incident occurred on Jalan Radial, specifically in the Sekanak River area.

Rusmiwati (50), the victim’s mother, revealed that her son was found with signs of a seizure, as evidenced by the position of his hands. She suggested that the hot weather might have triggered Apin’s epilepsy.

“Apin fell when his epilepsy acted up, as seen from the position of his hands when he was found. He has had this condition for a long time, but it has become more frequent as he got older,” Rusmiwati explained to Kotabari.com on Tuesday (May 14, 2024).

Rusmiwati recounted that Apin had left the house to sell toys at around 7:00 AM. However, only his sandals and his vending stall were found at the location later in the day.

“He left the house to sell toys at 7 AM. He rarely sells in Lambidaro, usually only once a week or whenever he wants,” she said.

Usually, Apin would return home around 10:00 AM, but on the day of the incident, he did not come back. The family thought he had gone to the mall, but they later received information about his body being found at around 9:30 PM. Rusmiwati immediately recognized Apin from the clothes still on his body.

“We searched all the malls yesterday because we thought Apin went there. Then we were informed at night that his body was found in the river near where he was selling,” she stated.

After an examination at RS Bhayangkara, Apin’s body was brought to the family home in Naskah Abadi Housing Complex, Block A No. 8, Palembang. The burial took place at the Naskah Public Cemetery in Sukarami District, Palembang.

Earlier, Apin, a resident of a housing complex (rusun) in Palembang, was found floating dead in the Sekanak River at around 9:00 PM on Monday (May 13, 2024). The head of RT 38, Novri Wardhana, confirmed the information, stating that Apin was a resident of Block 19 of the housing complex, living on the third floor.

“I had just come home last night when I received the information that Apin was found drowned in the river. He is one of our residents (Block 19), living on the third floor,” Novri said on Tuesday (May 14, 2024).

Novri mentioned that Apin had gone out to sell children’s toys in the morning and usually returned home by Maghrib (sunset prayer) time. However, on that day, he did not return home by the evening.

“He is usually home by Maghrib after selling, but yesterday he hadn’t come home even by the evening,” he added.
