Banyuasin, KOTABARI.COM – Romansyah, the former Head of Muara Baru Village, has been officially detained by the Banyuasin District Prosecutor’s Office on allegations of corruption in managing village funds during his tenure from 2016 to 2021. The alleged misconduct resulted in state losses of Rp 769,890,221.90 through fictitious projects and inflated budgets.

The Head of the Banyuasin District Prosecutor’s Office, Rymund Hasdianto Sihotang, through the Head of Special Crimes Section, H. Giovani, detailed Romansyah’s modus operandi. “The suspect intentionally disbursed funds for activities that were never carried out, supported by fictitious reports. Additionally, he inflated the costs of several projects with unreasonable pricing,” Giovani stated during a press conference on Tuesday (10/12/2024).

Investigations revealed that the Rp 769 million loss to the state could not be recovered by Romansyah. Evidence and audit reports confirmed the misappropriation, leading the prosecutors to detain the suspect for 20 days to prepare for the case transfer to the Class A Special District Court of Palembang.

“This detention is intended to ensure that legal proceedings proceed appropriately and to prevent the suspect from fleeing. It also serves as a warning to village fund managers to maintain transparency and accountability in their financial management,” Giovani emphasized.

Romansyah faces charges under Article 2 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001. Alternatively, he is charged under Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of the same law.

This case has drawn significant public attention, particularly regarding the management of village funds, which are meant to support development and community welfare. The legal proceedings are expected to pave the way for justice and improved governance in Banyuasin’s village administration.
