OKU Timur, KOTABARI.COM – The mystery surrounding the death of AU (16), a high school student in Ogan Komering Ulu Timur (OKUT) Regency, has been solved. The resident of Kemang Raya, Pujo Rahayu Village, Belitang I District, was murdered by her boyfriend, M Yasir (30), who has been arrested by the OKU Timur Police on Thursday (June 20, 2024) at around 11:30 PM.

Jealousy as the Motive

Upon his arrest, Yasir confessed that he killed the victim out of jealousy. He suspected that AU had another boyfriend besides him, despite their two-year relationship.

“The suspect said he was jealous because the victim was caught talking on the phone with another guy. This jealousy led to an argument that resulted in the murder,” said OKU Timur Police Chief AKBP Dwi Agung Setyono, accompanied by Deputy Chief Kompol Polin EA Pakpahan and Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Mukhlis, during a press release at the OKU Timur Police Headquarters on Friday (June 21, 2024).

Chronology of the Murder

The police chief explained that the murder occurred while the victim and the suspect were riding a motorcycle together. During the ride, AU received a phone call, which triggered an argument between them. Yasir then took AU to a rubber plantation, where he committed the murder.

“The suspect took the victim’s motorcycle to make it look like a robbery,” the police chief added.

Suspect Has Been Married Three Times

It was revealed that Yasir had been married three times, with the first two marriages ending in divorce. His current wife is pregnant.

“The suspect is married and his wife is pregnant,” said the police chief.

Facing Up to 20 Years in Prison

AU (16) was found dead by residents in a rubber plantation in Tebing Sari Mulya Village, Belitang Madang Raya District, OKU Timur, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at around 8:00 AM. Yasir was arrested at his home in Pandan Agung Village, Madang Suku II District, OKU Timur, around 11:30 PM after the SW Team and OKU Timur Police conducted an investigation.

“During interrogation, the suspect admitted his actions and was immediately taken to the OKU Timur Police Headquarters for further investigation,” emphasized the police chief.

Yasir is charged under Article 340 of the Criminal Code, facing up to 20 years in prison, Article 338 of the Criminal Code, with a potential 15-year sentence, and Article 365 Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code, also carrying a potential 15-year sentence.
