Muara Enim, KOTABARI.COM – Segayam Village, Gelumbang District, Muara Enim Regency, was startled by the discovery of a male corpse that had almost turned into a skeleton beneath a hut on Tuesday (May 14, 2024). The discovery was made accidentally by a resident who noticed something suspicious under the hut.
Curious, the resident approached the location and was shocked to find that it was a nearly skeletal body. The resident immediately reported the discovery to the owner of the oil palm plantation where the hut was located. Together with the plantation owner, other residents, and members of the Gelumbang Police, they verified the report. Upon arriving at the scene, they confirmed the presence of the skeletal remains.
The police quickly conducted an evacuation and processed the crime scene (TKP). The skeletal remains were then taken to RSUD Gelumbang for an autopsy. Gelumbang Police Chief AKP Robby Monodinata, accompanied by Sub-division Head of Public Relations AKP RTM Situmorang, confirmed the discovery of the unidentified skeletal remains.
“Results from the crime scene investigation and coordination with the local village administration and residents revealed that no one recognized or reported a missing family member, suggesting that the skeletal remains might belong to a person with mental illness,” explained Robby.
According to the doctor, the remains had likely been at the location for a long time, possibly around a year, before turning into a skeleton. The plantation owner mentioned that he had not visited the hut for three months.
Currently, the skeletal remains are being held at RSUD Gelumbang while awaiting information from the public if anyone is missing a family member. “If no one comes forward, the remains will be buried in Segayam village and marked in case a family member searches for them in the future,” Robby concluded.
