Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – The Palembang Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) is currently conducting a search operation for a drowning victim named M Aldo Afrilio in the Borang River.
The 13-year-old teenager was reported to have drowned in the Borang River, located in Sako Baru Village, Sako District, Palembang City, on Wednesday (1/5/2024) around 10:00 AM local time.
Raymond Konstantin, the Head of the Palembang Basarnas Office, accompanied by the Deputy Operations Manager Manca Rahwanto, stated that they received information about the drowning victim.
The chronology of the incident began when the victim was playing on the banks of the Borang River with six of his friends. Suddenly, the victim ventured alone to swim towards the middle of the river, while his friends remained on the riverbank.
“While enjoying his swim, the victim was suddenly swept away by the current. Seeing the victim being carried away, his friends attempted to rescue him, but due to the strong current of the river, the victim drowned,” Raymond explained.
Currently, the search operation is being conducted jointly with the Combined SAR Team from the Sako Military Command, Sako Police Sector, Sako Fire Department, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and local residents.
The search method involves dividing the Combined SAR Team into two Search and Rescue Units (SRU).
“SRU 1 is conducting surface search operations using rubber boats and community boats, while SRU 2 is performing underwater dives at the initial incident location and suspected areas where the victim might be,” he added.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the victim, with hopes of bringing closure to the family and ensuring the safety of all involved in the search operation.
