Three members of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the North Musi Rawas Regency Police (Muratara) were stabbed by a ringleader of a dice gambling operation during a raid last night. Information gathered indicates that the disturbing gambling activity took place near the night market in Muara Tiku Village, Karang Jaya District, Muratara Regency.
According to gathered information, the Head of the General Crimes Section (Pidum) Ipda Henry Martadinata instructed the operational team on how to proceed with the apprehension upon receiving information from the community about the dice gambling activity.
The team moved towards Muara Tiku Village, confirming the validity of the information and promptly apprehended the perpetrators.
The detective team successfully detained two dice gambling players identified as SB (31) and RK (33), residents of Tanjung Beringin Village, Rupit District. However, the dice gambling ringleader known as EP managed to flee, leading to a pursuit by the detective team.
During the pursuit, one of the officers named Briptu IM apprehended the suspect but was unexpectedly stabbed by EP in the left arm, left rib, and lower right abdomen. Unable to fend off the attack, Briptu IM was injured, allowing EP to escape once again.
Another police officer, Bripda ND, attempted to apprehend EP but was stabbed in the left chest by the suspect during the confrontation.
The situation escalated further when Aiptu KR engaged EP in pursuit, resulting in a physical struggle that left Aiptu KR stabbed in the right rib. In an attempt to prevent further harm, Aiptu KR fired warning shots towards EP’s right leg.
After a tense pursuit and physical altercation, the police managed to apprehend EP. However, the incident resulted in casualties, with three injured police officers immediately transported to the Karang Jaya Community Health Center. Unfortunately, Briptu IM was in critical condition and had to be urgently transferred to RS AR Bunda in Lubuklinggau.
Meanwhile, EP was taken to Rupit Regional Hospital for medical treatment after sustaining injuries during the incident. Despite receiving medical attention, EP was pronounced deceased upon examination by the Pidum Unit at the emergency ward of Rupit Regional Hospital.
This incident has drawn serious attention to the risks faced by law enforcement officers in carrying out their duties to uphold the law. The conditions of the three injured police officers and the fatality of EP require further investigation and scrutiny regarding this incident.
