The proceedings of the PSSI Appeals Committee that determined the fate of Sriwijaya FC were surprisingly brief. This came as an even greater shock to Faisal Mursyid SH, the Corporate Secretary of PT SOM (Sriwijaya Optimis Mandiri), which manages the Sriwijaya FC club, as he received unfavorable news. On that day, the PSSI Appeals Committee decided to reject the appeal filed by Sriwijaya FC regarding the disciplinary sanctions previously imposed.
Faisal Mursyid SH, the Corporate Secretary of Sriwijaya FC, expressed uncertainty about the technical aspects of the appeal hearing, whether it was conducted online or through other means. The decision was made swiftly without consuming much time.
Faisal voiced his disappointment with the decision, which he deemed unfair to Sriwijaya FC. The club’s management had presented ten chronological items explaining the events leading to their appeal. However, their appeal was rejected by the PSSI Appeals Committee.
Faisal stated that they would explore the possibility of filing a Review (PK) with the Chairman of PSSI. They will examine the new regulations introduced in 2023 and whether a PK remains a viable option.
Previously, Faisal Mursyid SH had personally delivered a hard copy of the appeal memorandum to the PSSI Appeals Committee one day before the deadline set by the PSSI Disciplinary Committee on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 12:35.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, the management of Sriwijaya FC had also sent their appeal memorandum via email.
However, on the same day, the PSSI Appeals Committee, led by Dr. Ali Mukartono. SH. MM as Chairman, Dr. Umar Husin, SH. MH as Vice Chairman, Daniel J.P. Wewengkang, SH as a Member, Mohammad Syah Indra Aman, SH. LL.M as a Member, and Drs. Sadik Algadri as a Member, promptly delivered their verdict.
The decision, in Decision Letter Number 004/KEP/KB/PEGADAIAN-LIGA2/XI/2023, consisted of three points:
- Accepting part of the appeal submitted by SRIWIJAYA FC on October 25, 2023, and providing reasons related to the regulations and articles that formed the basis for the imposition of disciplinary sanctions on Sriwijaya FC by the PSSI Disciplinary Committee based on Decision Number 062/L2/SK/KD PSSMIX/2023, dated October 24, 2023.
- Rejecting the remaining part of SRIWIJAYA FC’s appeal with the reasons provided in the appeal memorandum dated November 1, 2023.
- Rectifying the PSSI Disciplinary Committee’s decision, Number 062/L2/SK/KD PSSI/X/2023, dated October 24, 2023, by confirming that Sriwijaya FC had convincingly violated the regulations by not including U21 players in the starting XI, as stipulated in Article 23 paragraph (3) of the Pegadaian Liga 2 Regulations 2023 – 2024, and Article 28 of the PSSI Disciplinary Code 2023. Additionally, imposing disciplinary sanctions, including a 0-3 defeat to SEMEN PADANG and a deduction of 3 points in the official ranking of the Pegadaian Liga 2 Competition for the 2023-2024 season.
The PSSI Appeals Committee’s decision is considered final, binding, and effective from November 1, 2023. Changes will be made if any errors are found in the future. Sriwijaya FC will continue to consider their options and explore the possibility of filing a Review (PK) with the Chairman of PSSI.
