Musi Banyuasin, KOTABARI.COM – Due to recent heavy rainfall, the Musi River overflowed, resulting in the disruption of road access from Bumi Ayu Village to Lawang Wetan Subdistrict since Tuesday (16/1/2024). The continuous heavy rain in the region triggered floods, damaging road infrastructure and causing landslides.

Motorists attempting to traverse the split and flood-damaged road found themselves obstructed. To mitigate potential dangers, authorities decided to temporarily close the affected road for the safety of road users.

Lawang Wetan Subdistrict Head, Yusfarizal, explained that the landslide occurred due to the continuous heavy rainfall in the area. Initially, there were three road access points to Bumi Ayu Village, but one had to be temporarily closed.

“Actually, there are 3 roads leading to Bumi Ayu Village. And for now, we’re closing one access,” he stated during a confirmation on Wednesday (17/1/2024).

Yusfarizal advised motorists to use the other two alternative routes to avoid any unforeseen risks. The ongoing flood is predicted to persist as long as the rain continues, and residents are urged to remain vigilant, especially those residing in villages directly adjacent to the Musi River.

Thirteen villages are reported to be affected by the flood, with water levels ranging from 20 to 70 centimeters. Although most residents are still staying in their homes, emergency relief posts have been set up to assist those in need.

“We are closely monitoring the situation as the flood is expected to persist throughout the rainfall. We hope residents remain vigilant and prepared to face these conditions,” emphasized Yusfarizal.
