Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – A total of 900 families in Keramasan Sub-District, Kertapati District, Palembang City, are facing a critical situation due to flooding that inundated their area on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Homes of residents were submerged as the Musi River overflowed into the settlement.

The Acting Mayor of Palembang, Ratu Dewa, accompanied by the Chairman of the Palembang City DPRD, Zainal, personally visited the flood-affected area to assess the residents’ conditions. They inspected vulnerable points such as Mayjen Yusuf Singedekane Street, Sungai Ijuk Alley, and Putri Dayang Rindu Street.

The presence of these officials was eagerly awaited by residents who wished to convey their complaints and the current situation in their flood-affected homes.

Ratu Dewa stated, “I was invited by the Chairman of the Palembang City DPRD to inspect the residents affected by the rising waters of the river, starting from the mouth of the Musi River, coupled with contributions from the Ogan, Lematang, and Rawas Rivers returning to Palembang. Because of this disaster, approximately 900 households are affected, and we will provide assistance.”

The Acting Mayor has also requested the Department of Social Affairs and other relevant agencies to provide data and necessary assistance to the affected communities.

Zainal Abidin, Chairman of the Palembang City DPRD, confirmed that the initial assistance to be provided is in the form of basic necessities, especially rice, to meet the immediate needs of the affected residents.

“Regarding the infrastructure in the Keramasan area affected by flooding, DPRD Dapil 6 has allocated funds for the construction of bridges that are nonexistent and affected by floods. Rehabilitation may be carried out later,” Zainal explained.

With the increasing intensity of rainfall, the greatest hope at this time is for improved weather conditions and no further rain that could exacerbate the situation. The Palembang City Government, together with the affected communities, hopes to address the impact of the flood promptly and effectively.
