Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – Two young men faced a stroke of misfortune as they collided head-on with a reckless car while riding a motorcycle on Soekarno Hatta Road near Jojo’s shop, Ilir Barat I District, on Sunday, January 28th, 2024.
The incident occurred around 11:50 AM local time, involving a Yamaha Vixion motorcycle without a license plate and a Toyota Calya BG 1833 UQ.
The victims were identified as Ardiansyah (20), a resident of Campang Tiga, East OKU, who suffered a broken left arm, and Rama Nuproyadi, a resident of Mesuji, who sustained minor abrasions.
Meanwhile, the car driver escaped unharmed despite the motorcycle crashing into the front of his vehicle.
The driver of the Astra Toyota car, Samdan (70), explained that the incident occurred because the Vixion motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction.
He was driving from the direction of Macan Lindungan towards the Alang-alang Lebar area.
“The motorcycle was going the wrong way against traffic from Macan Lindungan towards Talang Kelapa. The motorcycle was speeding, the rider was wearing a helmet, and there was no license plate,” he said.
He mentioned that before the collision, another car in front of him almost hit the Vixion motorcycle. When the motorcycle rider suddenly swerved, it collided with his car.
“There was a car in front of it on the left side. Initially, the motorcycle was about to hit that car, but it suddenly swerved to the right. I was surprised to see the motorcycle, and then the collision happened,” he explained.
The Head of Traffic Accident Investigation Unit (Kanit Gakkum) of the Palembang City Police, Iptu Arham Sikakum, stated that the accident was caused by the motorcycle rider driving against traffic.
“The cause was the motorcycle going against traffic,” Arham said.
Currently, the motorcycle rider and passenger are conscious and have been immediately taken to the hospital after the incident.
“The victims are in stable condition. They were taken to the Muhammad Hoesin Hospital, while the damaged vehicles were taken to the Musi II Accident Post,” he concluded.
