Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – At least six houses were engulfed in flames on Pulau Street, Lorok Pakjo Village, Ilir Barat I District, Palembang City, South Sumatra (Sumsel), in the early hours of Tuesday (9/4/2024). This tragic incident also resulted in two motorcycles being charred.
According to reports, the fire broke out around 01:30 AM local time. One of the victims, Wiwin (25), a scavenger, tragically lost her life as she was trapped inside her burning home.
Kompol Ginanjar Aliya Sukmana, the Chief of Ilir Barat I Sub-District Police, explained that a witness named Dandi was the first to notice the fire at Wiwin’s house. The fire quickly escalated, prompting Dandi to alert nearby residents.
“The fire spread to other houses, and shortly after, around 5 fire brigade units arrived and commenced firefighting operations at around 03:30 AM local time, successfully extinguishing the flames,” stated Ginanjar.
The body of the victim, Wiwin, was transported to the RS Bhayangkara Palembang. Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities.
