Kayuagung, KOTABARI.COM – What was supposed to be a typical Saturday morning at SMAN 3 Unggulan Kayuagung turned into a scene of chaos and panic as a fierce fire engulfed the Boys’ Dormitory Building, sending students and nearby residents scrambling for safety.
The fire, suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit, broke out at 08:00 AM local time, according to reports from a student in the eleventh grade, Amri. “The fire suddenly emerged and engulfed a section of the room. Everyone panicked and fled outside,” Amri recounted.
Fortune favored the situation as there were no school activities scheduled for Saturdays due to SMAN 3 Unggulan Kayuagung’s implementation of full-day schooling, which only extends until Friday. This reduced the potential for casualties, although the exact extent of the damage is yet to be determined.
The school authorities had previously reported a similar incident the day before, albeit on a smaller scale. “Yesterday, there was a small fire due to an electrical short circuit, but it was easily extinguished,” added Amri.
Efforts to extinguish the blaze by authorities, including Kayuagung Police Chief, AKP Sudiarto SH, are still underway. “We are still struggling to put out the fire. Many parties have joined hands to help extinguish the fire, including the fire department assisted by the police, followed by the military, and we’ve seen nearby residents and students also pitching in,” stated the Police Chief.
