Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – The community of Palembang once again mourns a tragic incident of a drowning, this time involving a young boy, Faturrahman (11), a 5th-grade student. He was found deceased after an accident while swimming at the Benteng Kuto Besak (BKB) dock in Palembang, South Sumatra.
Information gathered indicates that Faturrahman drowned while swimming with his friends at the BKB Dock on Friday (10/5/2024) around 4:00 PM local time. An eyewitness, Ari (45), revealed that the incident occurred suddenly when the river’s current unexpectedly carried the victim away.
“It’s common for children to swim at the edge of the dock. Yesterday, one child drowned, and when the residents tried to rescue him, he was already nowhere to be seen. Yesterday, the search and rescue team also arrived from AIRUD to conduct the search,” said Ari.
The search and rescue team from the Sumsel Basarnas Office did not relent in their efforts. Finally, on Saturday (11/5/2024) around 4:30 PM local time, Faturrahman was found by a resident floating approximately 500 meters from the drowning site. The Chairman of the Sumsel Basarnas Office, Raymond Konstantin, stated that the victim was found lifeless.
“The victim named Fatur was found this afternoon at 4:30 PM local time in a deceased state. The victim was found floating by residents about 500 meters from the drowning site. We have already evacuated him and will take him to Bhayangkara Hospital for further examination,” he said.
This accident serves as a reminder to the entire community, especially parents and supervisors, of the importance of strict supervision of children when engaging in activities around water bodies. May the family find strength in facing this ordeal.
