Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – Former Lahat Regent for two terms, SAR, was questioned by the Special Crime Unit (Pidsus) of the South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati Sumsel) regarding allegations of corruption in coal mining activities. The questioning took place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Vanny Yulia Eka Sari SH MH, Head of Legal Information at Kejati Sumsel, confirmed that the investigative team questioned SAR as a witness in the corruption case. “Regarding the mining case update, today the investigators questioned witness SAR, the former Lahat Regent for two terms, 2008-2018,” Vanny told Kotabari.com.

The questioning, which lasted from morning until late afternoon, involved approximately 20 questions directed at SAR. “The witness was questioned from 9 AM until late afternoon and was asked around 20 questions,” Vanny explained.

The South Sumatra Prosecutor’s Office has elevated the status of this coal mining corruption case from investigation to prosecution. “The alleged corruption case in coal mining activities has progressed from investigation to prosecution,” Vanny emphasized.

On the previous Monday (April 22, 2024), the Special Crime Investigative Team of Kejati Sumsel held an exposition with the Central BPK RI regarding this case. “The Special Crime Investigative Team of Kejati Sumsel is conducting an exposition with the Central BPK,” she added.

With the case now in the prosecution stage, Kejati Sumsel will soon schedule the summoning of other witnesses for further questioning. “Going forward, witnesses will soon be summoned for questioning,” Vanny stated.

Vanny also mentioned that the investigation is now in the general prosecution phase, and several investigative activities will be carried out promptly. “We will inform the media about any further developments,” she concluded.

This case has drawn public attention due to the significant environmental and economic impact of corruption in coal mining activities. Kejati Sumsel is committed to thoroughly investigating this case and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
