Musi Rawas, KOTABARI.COM – Aisyah Bilqis, a six-year-old girl, drowned in a swimming pool in Karya Sakti Village, Muara Kelingi District, Musi Rawas Regency. The victim allegedly could not swim and was unsupervised by her parents during a holiday trip with her kindergarten group.
Musi Rawas Police Public Relations Officer, AKP Herdiansyah, confirmed the tragic incident that occurred on Saturday morning (June 1, 2024). “The child is named Aisyah Bilqis,” said Herdiansyah. The kindergarten group and parents arrived at the swimming pool around 08:15 AM, and the children immediately entered the pool, including Aisyah.
Around 09:00 AM, a visitor swimming in the pool noticed something unusual when their foot hit someone at the bottom of the pool. The visitor then panicked upon realizing it was a child who had drowned in the 120 cm deep pool.
“A visitor’s foot hit the victim,” explained Herdiansyah.
Pool staff and visitors quickly evacuated Aisyah from the water and rushed her to the nearby Karya Sakti Health Center. However, despite 30 minutes of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) efforts, Aisyah could not be saved. “After 30 minutes of CPR efforts, a re-evaluation was done. However, the victim was declared dead at 09:30 AM at the Karya Sakti Health Center,” Herdiansyah stated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Aisyah could not swim and was not adequately supervised by her parents or the pool management at the time of the incident. “The victim is suspected to have been unsupervised by both the parents and the pool management. The victim, who could not swim, drowned,” he added.
After being declared dead, Aisyah’s body was taken to her home in Dusun III, Marga Sakti Village, Muara Kelingi District, Musi Rawas Regency, for burial.
This incident serves as a critical reminder of the importance of strict supervision of children in swimming areas, especially those who do not have adequate swimming skills.
