Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – A tragic incident occurred to Grandma Jara, who became a victim of a hit-and-run accident at Benteng Kuto Besak (BKB) in Palembang. As a result of the incident, her left arm was fractured. Ironically, the perpetrator did not take Grandma Jara to the hospital but instead asked her to go by herself using a pedicab.

Siti Khodijah (38), Grandma Jara’s daughter, described her mother’s current condition. The hit-and-run incident happened on Saturday night, May 25th. “My mother is now bedridden and can no longer walk normally due to her injuries from the accident,” said Siti on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

According to Siti, her mother initially visited her at her stall in BKB but suddenly left without saying goodbye. Shortly after, Siti received news that her mother had been hit by a car. “My mother came to where I was selling at BKB. She left without saying goodbye, and I didn’t notice. Then I got information that my mother was hit by a car,” she said.

Following the incident, Siti mentioned that her mother was briefly transported by the perpetrator’s car but not to the hospital. Instead, she was dropped off at the entrance of their alley and told to take a pedicab to the hospital. “My mother was not taken to the hospital but was brought home and dropped off at the alley entrance. Then she was asked to take a pedicab home,” she continued.

Now, Siti hopes that the Palembang City Police (Polrestabes Palembang) will investigate the case. She hopes the person who hit and ran over her mother will be held accountable.

The incident went viral after surveillance camera footage was circulated. It showed a black Avanza car with the license plate BG 1088 AY attempting to leave the BKB area, hitting and running over Grandma Jara as she was passing by.

A parking attendant named Padli, who was at the scene, approached the car and asked the driver to take responsibility. According to him, Grandma Jara was indeed briefly transported by the car, but she was dropped off before reaching her destination. “The information I received is that the driver stopped in the middle of the road and asked the victim to continue her journey to the hospital using a pedicab,” said Padli.

This incident has caused public outrage and concern. People are urging the authorities to quickly apprehend the perpetrator and deliver justice for Grandma Jara and her family.
