Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – Agus Tri Budi (35), a resident of Jalan Mojopahit 9, Kelurahan 15 Ulu, Jakabaring, Palembang, was killed after being struck by a train on Tuesday (June 25, 2024) at around 9:00 AM WIB. The tragic incident occurred at an unguarded railway crossing on Jalan May Jend Yusuf Singadekane, Kelurahan Keramasan, Kertapati District.
Kertapati Police Chief, Iptu Angga Kurniawan, confirmed the fatal accident. “Yes, the incident happened on Jalan May Jend Yusuf Singadekane, Kelurahan Keramasan, Kertapati District, precisely at an unguarded railway crossing,” he stated.
Agus, who was employed by PHL DLHK, was riding a white Yamaha Mio 125 motorcycle with the license plate BG 3550 ABD when the accident occurred. According to eyewitness Jamil (48), Agus was attempting to cross the railway tracks when the tragedy struck. “The victim was riding a motorcycle and was about to cross the railway tracks at the location without a gate when a train suddenly came and hit the victim’s motorcycle,” explained Angga.
Jamil, who was a passenger on the motorcycle and a friend of the victim, recounted that they were behind a car that quickly crossed the tracks. “We were about to cross the tracks behind a car, which sped up. After the car crossed, we tried to cross too. The front wheel of the motorcycle was just beside the tracks when the train hit,” Jamil narrated.
Realizing the imminent danger, Jamil jumped off the motorcycle before the train struck them. “There was no time to brake. I jumped off the motorcycle, and it was hit by the train, causing the motorcycle and my friend to be thrown about 8 meters,” he added.
The accident caused Agus to be thrown 8 meters, sustaining severe head injuries and bleeding from his mouth, leading to his immediate death at the scene. “I was unharmed, but I felt weak afterwards. If I hadn’t jumped, we both would have died. My friend was thrown about 8 meters, with head injuries and blood coming from his mouth,” Jamil said somberly.
Police from Kertapati Police Station quickly arrived at the scene after receiving the report. “We immediately secured the scene, collected witness statements, and the victim was taken to Bhayangkara Hospital,” said Iptu Angga Kurniawan.
This incident adds to the growing list of tragic accidents at unguarded railway crossings, highlighting the urgent need for improved safety measures at such locations.
