Musi Rawas, KOTABARI.COM – A shocking accident occurred in Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra, on Sunday night (August 20, 2023) around 9:30 PM WIB. Two teenagers lost their lives in the accident, while another teenager sustained serious injuries. The tragic incident took place on the main road of Rejosari Village, Purwodadi Sub-district.
The first victim was identified as Doni Setiawan (17), a resident of Hamlet 3 in S Kertosari Village, Purwodadi Sub-district. Doni suffered injuries to his right hand and head, and unfortunately, he passed away at the scene despite rescue efforts and medical assistance. Although he was taken to a hospital in Lubuklinggau City, his life could not be saved.
Meanwhile, the second victim was Muhammad Apriyanto (18), a resident of Sumber Harta Sub-district, Musi Rawas Regency. Muhammad Apriyanto also sustained injuries to his left hand and head. Despite receiving treatment at a hospital in Lubuklinggau City, he eventually succumbed to his injuries. The medical interventions and care provided were not sufficient to save his life.
The sole survivor of the incident is Bayu Pratama (18), a resident of L Sidoharjo Village, Tugumulyo Sub-district. Bayu suffered severe injuries to his leg, resulting in a fracture. Currently, Bayu is undergoing intensive treatment at a hospital in Lubuklinggau City.
The traffic accident case is being handled by the Traffic Police of Musi Rawas Regency. The Regency Police Chief, AKBP Danu Agus Purnomo, through the Traffic Police Chief, AKP Fitri Dewi Utami, confirmed the tragic incident. Today, Monday (August 21, 2023), the Traffic Police of Musi Rawas Regency once again conducted an on-site investigation (crime scene processing) after previously conducting an investigation on the night of the incident and at the homes of the victims’ families.
The sequence of events began when Doni Setiawan was riding a Yamaha Jupiter motorcycle from the direction of S Kertosari towards O Mangunharjo Sub-district. Meanwhile, Muhammad Apriyanto and Bayu Pratama were on a Honda Supra Fit motorcycle, coming from the opposite direction. As they reached the main road of Rejosari Village, Purwodadi Sub-district, it is suspected that they attempted to overtake another vehicle.
However, this overtaking maneuver ended in a severe collision. As a result, a fatal accident occurred that claimed the lives of Doni Setiawan and Muhammad Apriyanto. Bayu Pratama, the only survivor, suffered severe leg injuries leading to a fracture.
IPDA Haris, the Head of Traffic Law Enforcement from the Traffic Police of Musi Rawas Regency, urged the public to always exercise caution while driving, especially at night. Haris also emphasized the importance of using SNI-certified helmets and avoiding driving in areas with poor lighting.
This incident serves as a reminder of the inherent risks of driving and underscores the significance of adhering to traffic regulations for the safety of oneself and others on the road.
