Indralaya, KOTABARI.COM – Indonesia’s education community is once again shrouded in grief. Romy Yudhistira, a diligent and high-achieving individual in the academic realm, tragically lost his life in an accident while en route to the University of Sriwijaya (Unsri) campus to attend his graduation ceremony on Tuesday morning (August 22, 2023).
Romy Yudhistira, a 32-year-old man, had achieved an exceptional feat by attaining a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.00. He was a Master of Education graduate in the Sports Education Program at the Faculty of Education and Teaching Sciences (FKIP) at the University of Sriwijaya.
This tragic accident also claimed the life of his wife, Ajeng Kusula Wardani, who was accompanying him on the journey. The couple was riding their motorcycle in the Banyuasin region, South Sumatra, when their vehicle was hit by a truck, abruptly ending their lives.
The university and his peers are deeply saddened by this news. The Head of the Sports Education Program at FKIP Unsri, Dr. Wahyu Indrabayu, M.Pd, expressed his sorrow over Romy’s departure. Wahyu, who was also Romy’s thesis advisor, reminisced about Romy as a diligent, accomplished student who actively engaged in academic pursuits.
Recently, Romy had participated in the rehearsal for his graduation ceremony at the Unsri Indralaya campus, marking the final stage of his academic journey. He was also expected to participate in the upcoming National Student Sports Week (Popnas). Prior to his passing, Romy had shared information with Wahyu about his involvement in the event.
Wahyu Indrabayu conveyed a profound sense of loss and described Romy as a student who was proactive in communicating with faculty members and relaying information from the Program Coordinator to his fellow students. Wahyu also confirmed that Romy had plans to become a Civil Servant with a Work Agreement (PPPK) after completing his Master’s education.
Romy and Ajeng leave behind a 2.5-year-old son. The loss of both parents leaves behind an orphan who must face the future without their presence.
The entire community mourns this news, and prayers for the late Romy and Ajeng, as well as the grieving family, continue to pour in. May they find strength in coping with this ordeal.
