Muara Beliti, KOTABARI.COM – A 42-year-old civil servant, working in the Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of the Musi Rawas District Tax Office (Samsat), has been apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Muara Beliti Police Department. The suspect, who hails from Lubuklinggau City, was arrested on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at around 6:10 PM local time while riding a motorcycle in Kertapati, Palembang City, South Sumatra Province.
The arrest of the individual, identified as AK, was made due to his involvement in a series of fraudulent activities targeting dozens of taxpayers who were trying to pay their taxes at the Musi Rawas Samsat office. The Musi Rawas Police Chief, AKBP Danu Agus Purnomo, relayed this information through Kapolsek Muara Beliti, AKP Elan Maruli Sitompul.
The apprehension of AK was based on a police report filed under case number LP/B-19/IX/2023/SPKT/POLSEK MUARA BELITI/POLRES MUSI RAWAS/POLDA SUMATERA SELATAN, dated September 8, 2023.
“This individual has been involved in deceiving dozens of taxpayers, both those with two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles, who intended to pay their taxes,” explained Kapolsek.
According to Kapolsek, the most recent incident involving the suspect occurred on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, around 10:00 AM at the Musi Rawas Samsat UPTD office. During this incident, a taxpayer sought the suspect’s assistance in processing their vehicle’s documents, including the original vehicle registration certificate (STNK) and vehicle ownership certificate (BPKB). The victim handed over these documents along with an amount of Rp7 million (approximately $480 USD) in cash to the suspect, who promised to complete the process within a month.
However, as of now, the suspect has failed to process the victim’s vehicle documents. Subsequently, the victim reported the incident to the Muara Beliti Police Department.
Upon receiving the victim’s report, the Criminal Investigation Unit promptly initiated an investigation into the suspect. The investigation confirmed that the suspect had committed embezzlement.
“The suspect was then tracked down and located in Kertapati, Palembang City,” Kapolsek stated.
Without any resistance, the suspect was arrested by the police at the scene. Currently, the suspect is undergoing further examination at the SU I Police Department in Palembang.
Kapolsek added that during interrogation, the suspect admitted to embezzling nearly 39 vehicle documents, including 24 for automobiles and 15 for motorcycles. Additionally, the police confiscated a receipt for the vehicle tax payment (SPPKB) and an automobile ownership certificate (BPKB) from the suspect.
