Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – The case of alleged corruption and irregularities in the implementation of the Cinde Market development project from 2016 to 2018 has seen significant progress. The South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati Sumsel) has finally elevated the status of the case to the investigation phase after six years of stagnation.
According to legal observer Dr. Azwar Agus, SH, MHum, white-collar crimes like this cannot be committed by a single individual. He believes that several individuals in positions of power and knowledge are involved in this case. Dr. Azwar stated, “White-collar crimes cannot be committed by a single individual. It involves individuals holding positions of authority. There could be more than three potential suspects.”
The elevation of the case to the investigation phase indicates the existence of substantial indications of corruption. In the criminal justice system, the appointment of suspects usually follows once there is a minimum of two pieces of evidence. Dr. Azwar Agus added, “If there are at least two pieces of evidence, then suspects will be identified soon. That’s usually how it happens in the criminal justice system.”
The Pidsus (Special Criminal Investigation) prosecutor’s office of Kejati Sumsel is currently conducting further investigations to gather additional evidence. They will summon witnesses related to the investigation to provide necessary statements. After the general investigation process is completed, the next step will be to determine the suspects who are accountable for this case.
In recent news, the South Sumatra Provincial Government has officially terminated the contract for the Cinde Market development project with PT Magna Beatum Aldiron Plaza Cinde. The project, which had an allocated budget of IDR 330 billion, commenced in June 2018. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the construction of Aldiron Plaza Cinde Market remains stalled with no progress made to date.
With the case now at the investigation phase, the public is eagerly awaiting the legal verdict from the ongoing judicial process. Kejati Sumsel is committed to thoroughly investigating the case in the pursuit of justice and the eradication of corruption in the South Sumatra region.
