Sekayu, KOTABARI.COM – The ongoing concrete paving project on Randik Ring Road in Sekayu, Musi Banyuasin (Muba) Regency, has once again caused an accident. A black Daihatsu Sigra vehicle veered off the road on Wednesday night (December 11, 2024).

The unfinished road, with exposed metal frames, has left many drivers anxious about passing through the area. Anton, a local driver from Sekayu, expressed frustration over the prolonged construction delays that have led to repeated accidents.

“This isn’t the first time accidents have happened because the road isn’t finished. Many residents have complained, but it still hasn’t been resolved. This road is a major route, yet the construction is taking so long,” he said.

He hopes that authorities responsible for the roadwork can expedite its completion, considering it is a key route connecting several areas in Muba Regency.

Sudarji, a local motorcycle taxi driver, echoed similar concerns, saying he often helps drivers of both cars and motorcycles who get stuck or fall on the hazardous road.

“This project has been going on for months but hasn’t been completed. Many vehicles get trapped or fall. It’s not just dangerous but also very dusty because of the unfinished concrete,” he said.

Sudarji added that many people suspect budget issues or other delays might be behind the stalled project.

Meanwhile, the Head of Traffic Police for Muba, AKP Pandri, confirmed that they have received several reports of accidents caused by the ongoing roadwork.

“Since the project started, there have been three single-vehicle accidents. We’re constantly coordinating with the project managers to find out when it will be completed. According to them, the roadwork should be finished by early December,” explained AKP Pandri.

He further assured that the police are monitoring traffic to prevent congestion that might disrupt the construction process.

“We urge the public to remain patient and cautious when passing through. We will continue coordinating with relevant parties to ensure the project is completed without further traffic disruptions,” he added.

The Randik Ring Road is a vital route in Muba Regency, connecting multiple regions. Residents are urging for the construction to be completed swiftly to ensure the safety and convenience of all road users.
