Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – Two automated teller machines (ATMs) at a minimarket on Jalan Tanjung Barangan, Bukit Baru Subdistrict, Ilir Barat I District, Palembang City, were targeted in a burglary early Tuesday morning (June 25, 2024). The thief managed to steal Rp 2.45 million in Rp 50,000 denominations from one ATM and cigarettes worth Rp 6 million from the minimarket.

The incident was discovered by Salsa, a minimarket employee, when she opened the store’s rolling door at around 6:

15 AM. She found both ATMs damaged and several packs of cigarettes missing from the shelves.

Ilir Barat I Police Chief, Commissioner Ginanjar Aliya Sukamana, stated that CCTV footage showed the perpetrator entering the store around 2:00 AM. “Initially, the lone thief targeted the ATMs. One machine’s cash was successfully taken, while the second machine was damaged but the money was not retrieved,” Ginanjar explained.

Bank ATN Mandiri reported a loss of Rp 2.45 million due to the stolen cash, while Bank ATM BNI experienced only machine damage with no money lost. The minimarket suffered a loss of Rp 6 million due to the stolen cigarettes.

The police are investigating the case by reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses around the crime scene. “We are actively investigating to apprehend the perpetrator. We urge anyone with information related to this case to come forward,” Ginanjar added.

Police Investigation

Officers from Ilir Barat I Police Station have conducted a crime scene investigation and reviewed the minimarket’s CCTV footage. “We have gathered several pieces of evidence and witness statements to expedite the investigation,” said the Police Chief.
