Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in South Sumatra has issued an early warning, urging residents to be vigilant when engaging in outdoor activities due to the predicted heavy rainfall expected to hit several districts and cities in South Sumatra today, Thursday (2/1/2024), and tomorrow (2/2/2024).
A total of 12 areas out of 17 districts and cities in South Sumatra are anticipated to be affected by heavy rainfall, with two districts, Muara Enim and Lahat, placed under a level of alert due to the severity of the forecasted rainfall.
The areas impacted by heavy rainfall are as follows:
Level of Alert (Siaga):
- Lahat District: Pagar Gunung, Mulak Ulu, Mulak Sebingkai, Tanjung Tebat, Kota Agung.
- Muara Enim District: Semendo Darat Tengah, Semendo Darat Ulu, Semendo Darat Laut.
Level of Caution (Waspada):
- Ogan Komering Ulu Selatan District: Buana Pemaca, Buay Pemaca, Buay Pematang Ribu Ranau Tengah, Buay Rawan, Warkuk Ranau Selatan.
- North Musi Rawas District: Tiang Pumpung Kepungut, Bulang Tengah Suku Ulu, Ulu Rawas, Karang Jaya.
- Musi Rawas District: Bulang Tengah Suku Ulu, Muara Beliti, Tugumulyo, Tuah Negeri, Selangit, Suku Tengah Lakitan Ulu.
- Ogan Komering Ulu Timur District: Buay Pemuka Bangsa Raja, Madang Suku III, Madang Suku II, Buay Madang Timur.
- Ogan Komering Ilir District: Mesuji Makmur, Mesuji, Lempuing.
- Lubuk Linggau City: Lubuk Linggau Selatan I, Lubuk Linggau Barat I, Lubuk Linggau Barat II, Lubuk Linggau Timur II, Lubuk Linggau Timur I, Lubuk Linggau Utara II, Lubuk Linggau Utara I, Lubuk Linggau Selatan II.
- Pagar Alam City: Dempo Selatan, Dempo Tengah, Pagar Alam Utara, Pagar Alam Selatan, Dempo Utara.
- Empat Lawang District: Tebing Tinggi, Muara Pinang, Saling.
- Ogan Komering Ulu District: Lubuk Raja, Lengkiti.
- Lahat District: Pajar Bulan, Gumay Ulu, Pseksu, Pulau Pinang, Gumay Talang, Tanjung Tebat, Mulak Sebingkai, Pagar Gunung, Mulak Ulu, Kota Agung, Pseksu, Kikim Timur, Kikim Barat, Kikim Selatan, Kikim Tengah.
The anticipated impacts of the heavy rainfall include difficulties in driving on roads, isolation of certain community groups, damage to homes and other structures, loss of livelihoods and livestock, impassable low-lying bridges, disruptions in traffic flow, damage to roads and bridges, moderate to medium-term disruptions in clean/drinking water, electricity, and gas services, disruptions in school and hospital operations, damage to river embankments, landslides, increased river/stream flow, damage to crops, siltation of rivers and dams, occurrence of mudflows or mudslides, cancellation or delay of flights and train travel, disruptions in port activities (ships, fishing), flooding in coastal or low-lying areas on a medium scale, dangerous flood currents, and disruption of community activities on a medium scale.
