Ogan Ilir, KOTABARI.COM – The main access road to Lubuk Rukam and Muara Kumbang Villages in Kandis Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, has been severed due to a landslide that damaged the bridge’s abutment. The collapse, reportedly caused by river erosion, occurred on Friday (December 13, 2024), leaving residents in both villages struggling to navigate their primary route.

Darius Basrin, a local resident, explained that the bridge’s abutment, which is reinforced with compacted soil, was undermined by the river’s current, leading to the landslide.

“The landslide on this bridge has cut off the main access between our two villages. Since Friday, no cars have been able to pass through, and even motorcycles can only cross with great difficulty using makeshift wooden supports,” Darius said on Saturday (December 14, 2024).

He also expressed concerns that there had been no government officials inspecting the damage yet. “We urgently hope that the government will act quickly to repair this bridge because it is the main access road for our community,” he added.

Meanwhile, the local police, under the supervision of AKP Sutopo, Chief of Rantau Alai Police, are maintaining a presence near the site to ensure public safety and prevent accidents.

“Our personnel are still on site, monitoring the area to prevent any incidents, such as accidents or other unforeseen events,” stated AKP Sutopo.

The residents of Lubuk Rukam and Muara Kumbang hope for a swift response from authorities to restore the bridge, which serves as a critical lifeline for their daily activities. Quick repairs are vital to normalize life in the affected villages.
