Baturaja, KOTABARI.COM – The support from the community of Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, particularly in the city of Baturaja, continues to flow towards the joint alliance action of OKU society, which is conducting a boycott of coal transportation. Various forms of support from the community are pouring in, as a measure to regulate coal transport that is seen as a cause of traffic chaos and a potential hazard for road users.

The boycott of coal transport action gains further momentum as OKU residents actively contribute material aid and moral support to the joint alliance organizing the action. Amidst the ongoing action, several individuals passing through the University of Baturaja (Unbara) intersection have also offered contributions in the form of packed meals, bottled water, and even financial donations to support the continuation of the boycott.

Drwin, a supporter of the action, conveyed, “We strongly support this action. For too long, the government and authorities seemed to turn a blind eye to the traffic disruptions caused by coal transport in the OKU region.” He expressed disappointment in the lack of response from authorities regarding this issue. “We are more inclined to support this action than endure the traffic chaos caused by coal transport,” he added.

The action’s coordinator, Evan Darlevi, explained that the boycott is a culmination of the community’s frustration with the ineffective enforcement of regulations concerning coal transport. Evan clarified that the action is carried out in accordance with the law, including Law Number 38 on roads, Law Number 22 of 2009, and South Sumatra Provincial Regulation Number 5 of 2011, which explicitly prohibits coal transport on public roads.

“We are compelling all coal transport passing through the Baturaja region to turn back. The message is simple: no more coal transport allowed to pass through the OKU area,” Evan firmly stated. He also emphasized that the action will continue until the government and authorities provide assurances that coal transport will no longer pass through the OKU region. “This action aims to support the enforcement of the law regarding coal transport. We urge the entire community to support this action for the sake of comfortable traffic flow for OKU residents,” said Yandri, an activist from OKU Regency.

The coal transport boycott action demonstrates the solidarity and concern of the OKU community for traffic quality and road safety. The community hopes that this action will prompt concrete actions from relevant authorities to address the issue of coal transport in the region.
