Palembang, South Sumatra – A drug rehabilitation patient in Palembang was found dead in a pond at the Ar-Rohman Rehabilitation Center, located on Jalan Tegal Binangun, Plaju Darat Subdistrict, Plaju District, on Sunday (December 8, 2024) at around 10:00 AM.
The body of Deri Darmawan (34), a resident of Way Kanan Regency, Lampung, was discovered floating in the pond by a staff member. The incident was confirmed by Plaju Police Chief AKP Rendy Novriady.
“Yes, a body of a drug rehabilitation patient was found this morning floating in the pond,” said AKP Rendy when contacted.
Rendy explained that according to a staff member, RM Habibi (38), the victim was last seen on Saturday night (December 7) at around 9:30 PM near his room. However, he was not seen again when all patients were instructed to rest.
Staff members searched for the victim until around 1:00 AM on Sunday but were unsuccessful. On Sunday morning at around 10:00 AM, another witness spotted the victim floating in the pond located in front of his room.
The incident was immediately reported to the police. “The victim has been taken by the Identification Unit of the Palembang Police Criminal Investigation Department to Bhayangkara Hospital for further examination,” Rendy added.
The cause of Deri Darmawan’s death remains unknown, pending the results of an autopsy at Bhayangkara Hospital. Investigators are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
