Ogan Ilir, KOTABARI.COM – A fierce fire broke out at Tanjung Raja Market in Ogan Ilir on Tuesday night (9/7/2024) around 10:30 PM local time, engulfing several shop buildings in the area.
According to police sources, the fire is believed to have started from one of the shops. “Witnesses saw the fire originate from one of the shops and quickly spread to surrounding buildings,” said Kapolsek (District Police Chief) Tanjung Raja, AKP Zahirin, on Wednesday (10/7/2024).
A joint team consisting of the military, police, BPBD (Disaster Management Agency), and firefighters, assisted by local residents, worked diligently to extinguish the blaze. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident. “There were no casualties because there were no people inside the buildings at the time of the fire,” explained Zahirin. However, four shop buildings suffered severe damage.
The cause of the fire is suspected to be electrical short circuits or faults. Police plan to question the shop owners for further information regarding the incident.
This is not the first time such a fire has occurred at Tanjung Raja Market. Similar incidents have happened before, although none have resulted in casualties.
Police urge the public to remain vigilant against fire hazards, especially those caused by electrical faults. “Awareness of the potential dangers of electrical short circuits is crucial to prevent such fires from happening again,” emphasized AKP Zahirin. He also stressed the importance of regular checks on electrical installations to ensure their safety.
This fire serves as a reminder for everyone to be vigilant and proactive in preventing potential fires that could harm many.
