Musi Rawas, South Sumatra, KOTABARI.COM – Severe floods have struck the Musi Rawas Regency in South Sumatra on Friday (10/3), triggered by heavy rainfall and the overflow of the Musi River. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Control Center managed to gather the latest data from the Musi Rawas Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Monday (13/3) at 17:30 WIB, reporting that a total of 8,227 individuals have been affected across three sub-districts.

Based on the preliminary rapid assessment, the floodwaters were observed to range from 50 to 400 centimeters in height. Visual observations in the field indicate that the water levels are still rising, and the affected area is expanding.

BPBD Musi Rawas swiftly arrived at the location shortly after the incident and has been actively coordinating with local authorities to conduct assessments and data collection in the affected areas. Additionally, evacuation efforts are underway, with rubber boats being deployed to transport affected residents to safer locations.

Referring to the information provided by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the March III Decade Rainfall Forecast for the Musi Rawas region, there is a medium potential for rainfall. In response, BNPB urges the public to take measures to enhance their disaster preparedness and vigilance in response to weather-related incidents. This includes identifying high-risk areas, staying informed about upcoming weather conditions, and being aware of evacuation routes in the event of a disaster.

The local BPBD and other relevant agencies have been instructed by the government to provide assistance and logistical support to the affected residents. Amidst this situation, cooperation and empathy from all parties are crucial in alleviating the suffering of the flood-affected residents in Musi Rawas Regency.
