Baturaja, KOTABARI.COM – Baturaja City, located in the Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra Province, found itself inundated by floods following heavy rains on Monday night, May 6, 2024. The torrential rain led to several roads in Baturaja being submerged under approximately 1 meter of water.

Areas affected by the flooding include several locations in Baturaja, such as Baturaja Permai Subdistrict in the East Baturaja District, including Block S on Mawar Street RT 12, Block L Baru RT 03, Block N on Bangkok Street Rt 05, Block R on Sepakat IV Street RT 12, and Block A on Moroseneng Street RT 01. Meanwhile, in Kemalaraja and Sukajadi Subdistricts, there are also points submerged in floods.

Baturaja Timur Subdistrict Head, Khairuddin Albar SSTP MSi, personally monitored the flood locations and even assisted in pushing motorcycles that stalled on Monday night. This flood is a seasonal phenomenon known as a “passing flood”, but its impact significantly disrupts residents’ activities and leaves mud and debris in its aftermath.

The Ogan Komering Ulu Regency Government, through the local subdistrict heads and officials, conducted patrols and direct monitoring in several affected areas, such as Baturaja Permai, Sukaraya, and Kemalaraja Subdistricts. Although water has begun to recede in some areas, there are still severely affected areas, particularly around Pancur Village on Tanjung Baru Road and near Ogan 4 Bridge.

“Alhamdulillah, in several spots, the water has started to recede, such as in Kemalaraja Subdistrict and several other points,” stated Baturaja Timur Subdistrict Head. Nevertheless, efforts for post-flood recovery remain a priority to ensure the normalization of activities for residents in Baturaja City.
