Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – The South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) has officially designated Hendri Zainuddin, the former Chairman of KONI Sumsel, as a suspect in a case involving alleged corruption of grant funds. Following the suspect designation, Zainuddin was promptly detained by the authorities.

During the arrest process, Zainuddin was observed wearing a vest with the inscription “Corruption Suspect, Kejati Sumsel,” and he appeared to lower his head as he was escorted to the detention vehicle. Assistant Special Prosecutor of Kejati Sumsel, Abdullah Noer Denny, accompanied by Public Relations Officer Vanny Yulia Eka Sari, confirmed Zainuddin’s status as a suspect.

“The investigation results are comprehensive with P21 evidence,” stated Denny on Tuesday (16/4/2024). Furthermore, Zainuddin’s detention was carried out based on a detention order numbered print-1603/L.6.10/Ft.1/04/2024, dated April 16, 2024, for a period of 20 days at the Class 1 State Detention Center (rutan) in Pakjo, Palembang, until May 5, 2024.

The legal proceedings concerning Zainuddin were initially postponed due to his candidacy in the South Sumatra DPRD elections in 2024. However, following his unsuccessful bid, the handling of the case was resumed to maintain transparency and accountability to the public.

Assistant Special Prosecutor of Kejati Sumsel also explained that Zainuddin is charged under Article 2 paragraph 1 Jo Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 and Article 3 Jo Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of corruption crimes Jo Article 33 paragraph 1 item 1 of the Criminal Code.

When asked about Zainuddin’s modus operandi, Denny stated that it was similar to previous occurrences, involving procurement of goods and grant funds within KONI. He also announced that two other suspects, SR and AT, had been sentenced earlier in the day, bringing the total to three suspects in this case. Additionally, the restitution of funds related to the case has already been completed.

The next stage will involve the handover of the suspects and evidence to the public prosecutor at the Palembang District Attorney’s Office for further legal proceedings.
