Prabumulih City, KOTABARI.COM – Ir. H. Iriadi MS, the former Coordinator of the Secretariat (Korsek) of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of South Sumatra, who was a defendant in a corruption case involving Bawaslu’s grant funds, has been reported deceased on Friday (July 28, 2023) at approximately 11:30 AM local time while en route to AR Bunda Hospital in Prabumulih City.

Based on information gathered from reliable sources, Iriadi had been ill and frequently sought medical treatment at the hospital due to complications from heart, kidney, and diabetes conditions.

Iriadi was a detainee entrusted to the Prabumulih District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) and held at Class IIB Detention Center in Prabumulih, South Sumatra. The Head of Prabumulih District Prosecutor’s Office, Roy Riady SH MH, confirmed the sad news of Iriadi’s passing when approached by journalists.

“Yes, it is true that Mr. Iriadi has passed away,” responded the District Prosecutor when asked by reporters.

Meanwhile, a source from Prabumulih’s Class IIB Detention Center stated that Iriadi seemed relaxed and was chatting with other inmates in the detention facility during the morning hours before the incident.

“He appeared relaxed this morning, but suddenly news of his illness emerged, and he was promptly taken by officials to the hospital, where he was declared deceased,” said the source.

David Rosehan, the Head of Class IIB National Detention Center in Prabumulih, also confirmed the incident.

Previously, the former Korsek of Bawaslu South Sumatra had been named a suspect (TSK) in the corruption case related to Bawaslu’s grant funds. He had been detained by investigators from the Prabumulih District Prosecutor’s Office since Thursday, February 9, 2023, under allegations of violating Article 2 paragraph 1 or Article 3 or Article 12 B Jo Article 18 of the Indonesian Law Number 20 of 2002 concerning Corruption Crimes (Tipikor).

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) had sought a prison sentence of 1 year and 6 months for Iriadi over his alleged involvement in the corruption case concerning Bawaslu’s grant funds.

The passing of Iriadi has left a deep sense of sorrow among his family and those involved in the legal proceedings. It is hoped that this case will be resolved judiciously, providing justice for all affected parties.
