Palembang, KOTABARI.COM — The Head of the Nature Enthusiasts Association (Mapala) of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, Irvansyah Dwi Putra (22), has filed a police report against his faculty dean at the Palembang Metropolitan Police Station. The report alleges physical assault and threats of dismissal, stemming from an incident on Monday, December 2, 2024.
According to Irvansyah, the incident occurred when he, along with two colleagues, Bunga and Lintang, approached the dean to request the issuance of a decree (SK) for the Mapala Brimpals management structure. He claimed that the request had already been approved by the Vice Rector IV.
“However, the dean refused to issue the decree. This led to a heated argument, during which the dean slammed the table, choked, and pushed me. He also threatened to dismiss me,” Irvansyah stated.
Feeling aggrieved, Irvansyah, accompanied by his legal counsel Jhony Ardiansyah from Rudi Aprianto SH and Partners Law Office, filed a complaint alleging unpleasant acts accompanied by violence (Article 335 of the Indonesian Criminal Code).
“We hope this report will be followed up promptly to ensure justice is served,” said Jhony.
Response from the University
Responding to the report, the legal representative of Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, Dr. Darmadi Djufri, SH, MH, explained that the incident arose from a misunderstanding regarding the authority to issue the decree.
According to Darmadi, issuing a decree for student organizations falls under the rector’s jurisdiction, not the dean’s. “Since the nature enthusiasts association is a university-level student activity unit, the issuance of the decree is the rector’s responsibility,” he clarified.
Darmadi expressed regret over the student’s decision to escalate the matter legally. “Filing a report against the dean is akin to reporting one’s own parent. We hope this issue can be resolved amicably,” he said.
He also hinted that the dean or the university might consider filing a counter-report if the student’s allegations prove unfounded.
Police to Investigate
Head of the SPKT at Palembang Metropolitan Police Station, AKP Hery, confirmed the receipt of Irvansyah’s report. “The report has been received, and we will immediately follow up on it,” he assured.
As of this report, the investigation is ongoing. All parties hope that the issue can be resolved wisely and in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.
