Musi Banyuasin, KOTABARI.COM – A fire broke out once again at an illegal oil well site in Musi Banyuasin (Muba), South Sumatra. Three oil wells in a single plot of land owned by a local resident in Keluang District burned for two days before finally being extinguished on Monday night (May 13, 2024).

According to information gathered by Kotabari.com, the incident occurred on Sunday (May 12, 2024). Bondan, a source confirmed by Kotabari.com on Tuesday (May 14, 2024), confirmed the incident. “Yes, the incident happened since May 12 and was extinguished yesterday (May 13),” he said.

The fire at the three oil wells is suspected to have been triggered by sparks from a pump used by local residents to extract residual oil around the wells. “The cause was that local residents were extracting residual oil there using a pump, causing sparks from the pump and resulting in the fire,” Bondan explained.

Police visited and secured the scene on Monday. Evidence such as the burnt pump and approximately 35 liters of crude oil have also been secured. “The pump has been secured. There is also about 35 liters of crude oil (secured),” he added.

This incident adds to the long list of fires caused by illegal oil drilling activities in the area, highlighting the importance of supervision and law enforcement to prevent similar incidents in the future.
