Lahat, KOTABARI.COM – Residents of Sindang Panjang Village, Tanjung Sakti Pumi Subdistrict, Lahat Regency, were shocked by the discovery of a man’s body on a rock near the banks of the Lematang River on Friday (December 27, 2024). The incident occurred around 12:00 PM, as villagers were preparing for Friday prayers.
The body was found face down, wearing a black sweater that was partially pulled up and jeans, with his legs dangling toward the river. The man’s identity remains unknown, and locals suspect he was not a resident of the area.
The discovery is believed to be linked to the reported theft of a motorcycle belonging to a resident of Pagaralam City earlier that day in the Tanjung Sakti area.
Chase Ends in a Deadly Leap
Earlier, at around 11:00 AM, a Pagaralam City resident searching for his stolen motorcycle spotted a man suspected to be the thief passing through Sindang Panjang Village, heading toward Pagaralam City. The victim followed the suspect to confirm the description provided in the theft report.
When the suspect’s description matched the victim’s account, locals intercepted the suspect. However, one of the suspected thieves panicked and jumped into a 60-meter-deep ravine, dying instantly, while the other fled toward the hills.
Police Still Investigating
Lahat Police Chief AKBP God Parlasro Sinsitor Sinaga SIK MH, through Police Public Relations Subdivision Head Aiptu Lispono, stated that no formal report regarding the incident has yet been received from the Tanjung Sakti Police.
“We haven’t received any reports regarding this case, including the chronology or the identity of the victim. We’re waiting for further information,” said Lispono.
As of the time of reporting, Tanjung Sakti Police Chief could not be reached for comment.
The case is under investigation to determine the connection between the discovery of the body and the motorcycle theft. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
