Musi Rawas, South Sumatra – A neighborhood head, identified as Y, who serves as the head of RT 06 in Talang Ubi, has been reported to the Regional General Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) of Musi Rawas for alleged involvement in vote buying. The incident occurred on Sunday (November 24, 2024) at approximately 8:30 PM in Talang Ubi, Megang Sakti District.
The Coordinator of the Division for Handling Violations and Dispute Settlement of Bawaslu Musi Rawas, Oktureni Sandhra Kirana, confirmed the report. Y was caught by residents before distributing cash allegedly intended to support one of the candidates in the Musi Rawas regent election.
“Yes, it’s true. Last night, the individual was taken from the Panwascam (Subdistrict Election Supervisory Committee) and reported to Bawaslu Musi Rawas. The report has been received,” Oktureni stated on Monday (November 25, 2024).
Evidence Secured
According to reports, Y was found carrying a sum of money and a sheet of paper listing local residents’ names. These items have been secured by Bawaslu as evidence for further investigation.
“He was caught before distributing the money, but we are still investigating further. The secured items include the money he was carrying and a list of resident data,” Oktureni explained.
The residents who apprehended Y immediately filed an official report with Bawaslu Musi Rawas, accompanied by police officers and a prosecutor.
Report Handling Process
Oktureni stated that the report is currently under preliminary examination. Bawaslu is reviewing the formal and material requirements of the report before deciding on the next steps.
“We are currently in the report reception stage. Today, we will check its completeness. If all requirements are met, the case will be registered. If there are deficiencies, the complainant will have 24 hours to complete the requirements,” Oktureni clarified.
Bawaslu’s Commitment
This case has drawn significant attention as the Musi Rawas regional election approaches. Bawaslu Musi Rawas reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigate the allegations to uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
As of this report, the accused party has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations. The investigation is ongoing, and results will be announced upon completion of the examination.
