Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – A multiple-vehicle collision involving at least three trucks occurred on the Alang-Alang Lebar Bypass Road, near the Citra Grand City gas station, in the early hours of today. The incident took place at approximately 00:30 AM local time. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in this event, with only one driver sustaining minor injuries.
The accident began when the driver of a vehicle with license plate number BE 8928 DU was reported to have fallen asleep at the wheel. Due to drowsiness, the vehicle swerved and became uncontrollable, leading to a collision with an orange Fuso truck with license plate BG 8130 DY in front of it.
The impact of this collision caused the orange Fuso truck to collide with a truck trailer in front of it, resulting in damage to the front and rear of the Fuso truck, as well as spilling its load of Glass Tea.
Santoso, the driver of the orange Fuso truck, recounted the moments leading up to the incident. “I was in the process of using a jack as my truck’s rim had a flat tire, and I had already placed a warning triangle as a precaution. After setting up the jack, I stood beside my truck. Shortly after, the truck trailer approached,” he said.
The truck trailer, driven by Tarwansyah (26), was seen swaying from side to side at a high speed. Santoso quickly recognized the danger and moved away from his vehicle.
Following the rear-end collision, Santoso’s truck was pushed forward, subsequently colliding with the truck trailer that was experiencing a flat tire, with license plate BG 8253 IH.
Tarwansyah admitted to feeling drowsy at the time of the accident. “I was drowsy, Sir. I was traveling from Surabaya with my destination being Lampung, ultimately reaching Air Batu. When I swerved, I veered to the right,” he said. Despite sustaining minor abrasions on his hands and chest from the collision, Tarwansyah expressed gratitude that no serious injuries were incurred.
Both of the trucks involved in the accident have been promptly removed from the scene. Further investigation will be conducted by the Palembang City Traffic Directorate to clarify all aspects of this incident. This incident once again underscores the importance of awareness and vigilance among drivers on the road, especially when experiencing fatigue or drowsiness behind the wheel. Hopefully, this incident serves as a reminder to all to prioritize safety on the road.
