PALI, KOTABARI.COM – The Criminal Investigation Unit of Tanah Abang Police Sub-District, PALI Regional Police, successfully raided a cockfighting gambling arena operating in North Tanah Abang Village, Tanah Abang Sub-District, PALI Regency, South Sumatra Province on Wednesday (August 16, 2023). This raid followed complaints from the public regarding the disturbing presence of cockfighting gambling activities that had been ongoing for nearly two months.
The Chief of Tanah Abang Police, IPTU Darmawansyah, SH, MH, along with police personnel, immediately headed to the location of the cockfighting gambling where it was situated not far from a soccer field in North Tanah Abang Village. The police managed to apprehend several adult males suspected of engaging in cockfighting gambling activities. However, no immediate detentions were made based on requests from the family members. Instead, they were required to report to the police station on Mondays and Thursdays every week during the ongoing investigation.
The cockfighting activities were organized by a man identified by the initial “IS,” who is a resident of North Tanah Abang Village, Tanah Abang Sub-District, PALI. At the gambling site, the police discovered a cockfighting arena, rooster cages, the roosters intended for the fights, as well as tools for determining the timing of each round during the matches.
PALI Police Chief, AKBP Khairu Nasrudin, S.I.K, M.H, through Chief of Tanah Abang Police IPTU Darmawansyah, SH, MH, explained that the raid was conducted before the cockfighting gambling activities commenced. At that time, the perpetrators were still in the preparation phase. Additionally, the police managed to seize several pieces of evidence, including 12 roosters, a wall clock, various equipment used in managing the cockfighting matches, 6 rooster cages, as well as 12 motorcycles and 2 cars that were abandoned by their owners during the raid.
Chief of Tanah Abang Police, IPTU Darmawansyah, SH, MH, also issued a warning to the residents around the cockfighting gambling location. He urged the public to report any disturbing gambling activities to the Tanah Abang Police so that appropriate actions can be taken. He emphasized that the police will continue to patrol to monitor and locate other venues still engaging in gambling activities.
He further revealed that efforts will be made to track down the owner or main perpetrator of the cockfighting gambling identified by the initials “IS,” who managed to flee. Further investigation will be conducted (Lidik) to uncover the entire network and practices involved in this gambling operation.
