Prabumulih, KOTABARI.COM – The Prabumulih-Indralaya toll road has been plagued by a series of copper cable thefts, specifically NYFGBY cables used for VMS CCTV cameras, which has caused disruptions at several points along the route.
The Rambang Kapak Tengah Police Sub-Precinct successfully apprehended one suspect involved in two of the cable theft incidents. The captured individual is Pramono (41), a resident of Pisang Baru Village, Bumi Agung District, Way Kanan Regency, Lampung Province. However, another suspect with the initial “RU” remains at large and is being pursued by law enforcement.
Prabumulih Police Chief, AKBP Endro Aribowo SIK, confirmed the arrest of the toll facility thief through Rambang Kapak Tengah Police Chief, IPTU Santy Wijaya SH MH, and Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, IPDA Egar Carles SH.
The arrest stemmed from a report filed by Hengki Marseli (34), an employee of PT HK Aston residing in Sukajadi Village, East Prabumulih. According to the report, on Sunday (4/2/2024) at 23:45, there was a theft of 60 meters of NYFGBY copper cable along the toll road at KM 00400, in the Karangan Village area, RKT District, Prabumulih City.
Explaining further, the police chief mentioned that the stolen cable was buried underground and served as the electrical conduit for the VMS cameras. The perpetrators utilized large cutting tools, resembling pliers, to sever the cables. Evidence recovered from the scene includes 60 meters of black NYFGBY 4×16 copper cable and a white sack with blue writing labeled “AMJ” in red.
The suspect will be charged under Article 363 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) for aggravated theft, which carries a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment.
In his statement to the authorities, Pramono confessed to committing three cable thefts along the Indralaya-Prabumulih toll road. “Yes, I stole with a friend, and we planned to sell the cables for our daily needs,” he admitted.
