Musi Banyuasin, KOTABARI.COM – After about 6 months of investigation, the culprit behind the theft of money from Yoga Amartha’s (32) motorcycle seat, a resident of Gajah Mati village in the Sungai Keruh district, has finally been revealed. The incident took place on Monday, December 5, 2022, on Arifin Jalil Street, in front of a Honda dealership in Balai Agung Village, Sekayu District, Musi Banyuasin Regency (Muba).
It turns out that one of the suspected perpetrators is Eko Saputra (25), also a resident of Gajah Mati village in the Sungai Keruh district, living in a different hamlet from the victim. Eko Saputra was found to be involved in the theft of Yoga Amartha’s money after he was apprehended in another case by the Srigala Police of Muba Regency, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Unit of Bayung Lencir Police, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
As it was known, Eko Saputra did not act alone but was accompanied by other accomplices who are currently still being pursued by the police. When contacted by the media on Saturday, July 22, 2023, the Chief of Muba Police, AKBP Imam Safii Sik, Msi, confirmed the disclosure of the money theft case that was reported to the Sekayu Police about 6 months ago.
“This disclosure is the result of the development of other cases by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Muba Police. After the investigation, it was found that the suspect, Eko Saputra, was also involved in another case of stealing money amounting to Rp. 70,000,000, which was also stored in the motorcycle seat. The location of this case falls under the jurisdiction of the Sekayu Police, which is why we are conducting an investigation into the involvement of the suspect, Eko Saputra, within our jurisdiction. However, his involvement in other cases and locations will be investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Muba Police,” stated the Chief of Sekayu Police, AKP Suvenfri SH.
AKP Suvenfri added that the suspect was part of a specialized criminal network targeting bank customers who had just withdrawn money from the bank. In cases involving vehicles, their modus operandi was breaking car windows. “We will charge the suspect, Eko Saputra, with Article 363 paragraph (1) subsection 4 of the Criminal Code, which deals with aggravated theft, carrying a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison,” he asserted.
As of now, the police are still in pursuit of the other suspects involved in this crime. It is hoped that this disclosure will bring justice to the victim and serve as a deterrent to potential criminals engaged in similar activities. The public is urged to remain vigilant and cautious in safeguarding their money and valuables, especially in public places or vehicles.
