Muara Enim, KOTABARI.COM – The residents of Lingga Village in Lawang Kidul District, Muara Enim Regency, were shocked by a sudden incident. It was discovered that one of their fellow villagers, Pasi Hulisan (35), was found floating lifeless in an old well located on Adel Street, RT 07, Kampung IV, Lingga Village, Lawang Kidul District, Muara Enim, precisely in front of the Bukit Asam Power Plant, on Sunday (July 16, 2023) at around 13:00.
According to information gathered from the Muara Enim Regional Police, the discovery came about when the victim’s family started searching for him after he failed to return home. They found his clothes and a bag by the edge of the well, and during their search, they found the lifeless body of a man floating in the well.
Upon making the discovery, the villagers immediately reported the incident to the Lawang Kidul Police Station and PTBA (Bukit Asam) rescue team. The victim was successfully evacuated.
Muara Enim Police Chief, AKBP Andi Supriadi SH SIk MH, through Lawang Kidul Police Chief, Iptu Charlie Romisius Simanjuntak STrK MM, explained that it is suspected that the victim fell into the well while cleaning and repairing the pump inside. It is believed that the victim used a bamboo pole as a makeshift ladder to enter the well, but unfortunately, the bamboo did not reach the bottom of the well.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim fell into the well, possibly due to his asthma condition. After a medical examination at Bukit Asam Hospital, it was revealed that the victim had abrasions on his chin, scratches on his upper back, and scratches on his buttocks.
The cause of death is suspected to be a fall while climbing the ladder inside the well and a subsequent lack of oxygen due to inadequate ventilation in the well.
Authorities, including the PT Bukit Asam rescue team, have inspected the well using gas and oxygen detectors at the bottom, and the results indicated the absence of oxygen and no presence of hazardous gases.
“Considering the deep and unsecured condition of the well, Lawang Kidul Police Chief expressed concern about the possibility of similar incidents occurring in the future, posing risks to both humans and animals. Therefore, he suggested that the well be covered or equipped with protective barriers as a preventive measure to avoid similar accidents from happening again,” concluded Iptu Charlie Romisius Simanjuntak STrK MM.
The tragic incident of Pasi Hulisan’s death has brought grief to the residents of Lingga Village. The local community hopes that the relevant authorities will take necessary actions to prevent similar accidents in the future. May the victim’s family find strength in facing this ordeal.
